» Before we start this section, let’s exercise with adjectives.

See the picture and say the adjective with ★ in Japanese. 

 

1. Aは　Bより【adjective】。

In lesson 12, we will study how to compare with adjectives.

Look at the pictures.  To compare 2 set menus, you say

 

🚩 A は　B より　高いです。📢

 

A  is  more expensive  than  B.

 

Please pay attention to the position of A and B, especially B.

 

 

In conversation, you say like below.

ex.1) Q  : Aは　Bより　高いですか。📢

      A：はい、高いです。📢 　

 

ex.2) Q  : Bは　Aより　高いですか。📢

　　  A：いいえ、高くないです。📢 　

 

 

You can also ask and answer below.

ex.3) Q：Aは　Bより　高いですか、やすいですか。📢

　   A：高いです。📢

 

 

» Let’s compare like ex.).  Please think which is higher, faster, ….

ex.)（スマホ　パソコン　重(おも)いです）⇒パソコンは　スマホより　重いです。

2. AとBと　どちらが【adjective】ですか。

Let’s study how to ask and answer which is higher ?, bigger ?, etc..

Let’s see these set menus again.

 

🚩Q：Aと　Bと　どちらが　やすいですか。　📢

 

   Which  is  cheaper,  A  or  B ?

 

🚩 A：Bのほうが　やすいです。　📢　

 

    B is.

 

Japanese word order is very different from English. In addition, many particles are used in this sentences pattern😰

 When you answer, do not say はい/いいえ.

 

 

You can answer with どちらも like this.

 

🚩Q：日本語と　えい語と　どちらが　むずかしいですか。📢　

                                                                                 　　　　　　Which is more difficult, Japanese or English ？

A：どちらも　むずかしいです。📢  　　　Both are difficult.　

 

 

» Let’s make question and answer like ex.).  Think about the answer.

ex.)（スマホ　パソコン　重(おも)いです）

     Q：スマホと　パソコンと、どちらが　重いですか。

　      A：パソコンの　ほうが　重いです。

In the last section, we’ve studied how to compare 2 things, people, etc..

Here we are studying how to compare more than 3.

 

Let’s compare these 3 cloths.

 

🚩Aと　Bと　Cの　中で、Bが　いちばん　高いです。📢

 

In  A,  B  and  C,  B  is  the most  expensive.

 　　　　　 

Be careful that so many particles are used in this sentence pattern😰

 

You can omit の中 and say Aと　Bと　Cで、Bが　いちばん　高いです.

Do not forget that you can use this sentence pattern to compare more than 3.  If you compare 2, you use Aは　Bより～.

 

You can also say below.

 

🚩かいしゃの　パソコンの　中で、私の　パソコンが　いちばん　古いです。📢

 

Among company’s PC, mine is the oldest.

 

 

» Let’s talk about your friends and country.

1 （　）さんと（　）さんと（　）の中で、（　）さんが　いちばん　高いです。

2 （name of your country）で（name of the city）が　いちばん　有名です。

3  クラス/かいしゃの中で（　　）さんが　いちばん（　　）です。

Answer in Japanese is a little bit long😰

Please note that you use a particle が.

 

In case you ask about the places, you use どこ.

 

Q：日本で　どこが　いちばん　広(ひろ)いですか。📢

 

     Where is the widest in Japan ?

 

A：ほっかいどうが　いちばん　広いです。📢  　

     Hokkaido is the widest.
